The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed defenseman Jack Johnson to a one-year, $775,000 contract. Johnson, who previously spent seven seasons with the Blue Jackets, expressed his desire to play in Columbus and finish his career there. The team also signed center Sean Monahan to a five-year, $27.5 million contract. Both Johnson and Monahan are expected to mentor and guide the team’s young players. Johnson, the only Blue Jackets player with a Stanley Cup win, will provide defensive depth and contribute to the penalty kill. His physical presence on the ice will be valuable to the team.
